MEDICATIONS, NON FOOD PRODUCTS, PET FOOD, LIST FOR PESACH:
I hope all is well. I attached The OU guide for Nonfood items or items that don’t need an OU-P. Also the STAR K Guide. Below is also a list of what these items can be used. It is Commended if one always buys Kasher Lapesach Toothpaste or mouthwash, However, here is a list of non-Kasher Lapesach items which are still ok to use. Also attached are quick guides for Medicine and Pets. Look at the attachments for more info.
Oral Health Products: Mouthwash and Toothpaste contain sorbitol and other ingredients which may be derived from Hametz. Although, l’halacha these items are permissible to use since they are nifsal mayachilat kelev, It is preferred not to use them as they are taken orally.
Mouthwash Scope: Listerine (plain and Listermint), Tom’s of Main, Amway (not the Amway Glister Anti Plaque Fluoride)
Toothpaste: Aim, Aqua fresh. Colgate. Crest (Cool Mint, Extra Whitening, Multicare, Kids Sparkle), Gleem, Mentadent, Pepsodent, Tom’s of Maine
Dental floss / Pre-threaded: Any unflavored (waxed or unwaxed) may be used.
ChapStick: No supervision necessary. Unflavored only, new tube.
Cosmetics: Hair spray, soaps, shampoos, deodorant, powders (medicated, perfumed, baby, face, foot, etc…), even without special Passover supervision.
GLUTEN-FREE Products: as the gluten-free demand has increased, there are many types of cakes, cookies, crackers and even ‘matza look-alikes’ that are produced for Passover. The Beracha for these items is Shehakol. Many have asked about the acceptability of year-round gluten-free products. The answer is NO. Gluten-free means that it is free of the gluten aspect of the grain, however some grains, such as oats, are naturally gluten-free, but they are 100% HAMES.
SODAS: Sodas must have Kosher for Passover certification due to possible Hames in the flavouring base. Many varieties are readily available. 2 litre and cans Coca Cola Classic & Diet Coke, Sprite: must have the OU-P on the cap (yellow cap). Dr Browns (Kof K P), Pepsi products must bear a Kof KP on the cap. Florida: Kosher for Pesach bottles marked with ORB P
